Directions to the Texas State University AAC Academy

The address to the Edward Gary Street Garage is: 405 N. Edward Gary St., San Marcos, TX 78666

    • Take I-35 South to San Marcos Exit 206 (Aquarena Springs Dr)
    • Merge onto I-35 frontage road
    • Take a right onto Aquarena Springs Dr.
    • Continue onto University Dr. (do not turn right on Sessom)
    • Turn right onto N. Edward Gary St.
    • Make a U-turn at or before Woods St. (before you U-turn – look straight ahead to the right – that’s the Education Building!)
    • Edward Gary St. Garage will be on your right

    • Take I-35 North to San Marcos
    • Exit 204 (San Marcos/Seguin/TX 82 Loop/TX 123 Loop)
    • Merge onto I-35 frontage road
    • Turn left onto S. Guadalupe St. - S Guadalupe St. turns right and becomes E. Grove St., then turns left to become S. LBJ Dr. (Stay in your lane! Both lanes turn.)
    • Turn right onto N. Edward Gary St. after second railroad track
    • Go straight past Hopkins, Hutchinson, and University Dr.
    • Make a U-turn at or before Woods St. (before you U-turn – look straight ahead to the right – that’s the Education Building!)
    • Edward Gary St. Garage will be on your right

    • Take I-10W
    • Exit 632 for US-183 toward US 90/Luling/Lockhart
    • Turn right onto US-183 N/E Pierce Sr. (signs for Luling/Lockhart/US-90)
    • Turn right onto S. Magnolia Ave.
    • Turn left at the 3rd cross street onto TX-80 N/E Austin St.
    • Continue to follow TX-80 N - TX-80 turns into E. Hopkins St. in San Marcos
    • Turn right onto Edward Gary St.
    • Make a U-turn at or before Woods St. (before you U-turn – look straight ahead to the right – that’s the Education Building!)
    • Edward Gary St. Garage will be on your right

Parking at the Edward Gary St. Garage

Most participants will park at the Edward Gary Street Garage. The Edward Gary Street Garage is located at 405 N. Edward Gary St. Once you park at the garage, bring your parking slip inside with you so that we can give you a validation sticker.

If you are disabled/uniquely abled, please contact me at least one week prior to the training so I can order you a parking pass in one of the CARES spaces directly across the street.

DO NOT park in faculty or student parking unless you have a university-approved parking pass. If you park in designated parking spots, you will be responsible for any parking fees incurred.

Parking for Disabled/Uniquely Abled Participants

Disabled or uniquely abled persons with a valid state-issued disabled license plate or hang tag can park in designated disabled parking spaces. Often these parking spaces are taken. The AAC Academy can order a CARES Clinic tag for you to park directly across the street. Please request a CARES tag at least two weeks before each training.

To park in a CARES Clinic spot, you can park in the lot right across from the Education Building is Lot R-49. Driving directions from University Drive: (follow previous directions to University Dr.)

  • Turn right onto N. Edward Gary St.
  • Turn right at Woods St. (before you turn right – look straight ahead to the right – that’s the Education Building)
  • Turn immediately right into Lot R-49.

Getting to the Education Building

ED Building

The Education Building (listed as “ED” on campus maps) is located just a short walk from the Edward Gary Street Garage by walking north along Edward Gary St. The Education Building is at the corner of Edward Gary St. and Woods St. 

Follow more specific directions below depending on if you are a Practicum volunteer or an AAC Team.

  • The AAC Practicum will be held in the Texas State University Community Counseling and Wellness Clinic. To get to the clinic:

    • Go to the front of the Education Building and stand in front of the large set of stairs.
    • Take the walkway to the right (instead of taking the stairs).
    • The walkway will lead you to the clinic at the end of the walkway on the right. Straight ahead you will see a large sign about university concealed carry policies. (FYI – concealed or open carry guns are not allowed in the counseling clinic.)
    • Go in the clinic room and sit in the chairs. There is a camera in the room, so we will see you arrive and will come and greet you shortly.

  • The AAC Academy trainings will be held in the Education Building (ED) on the 4th floor. To get to the training room:

    • Go to the front of the Education Building and stand in front of the large set of stairs.
    • Take the walkway to the right (instead of taking the stairs). The walkway will lead you to two double doors on the left (there is a clinic to the right – don’t go in there).
    • Go through the double doors on the left and go down the hall to the elevator.
    • Take the elevator up to the 4th floor.
    • When you exit the elevator, walk out to the right and then take an immediate left (don’t go outside, go the other direction). You should see a large TV screen on the wall displaying news about the CLAS Department.
    • Turn to the left at the large screen, go down the hall, and then turn to the right. You should see a yellow wall with the Texas State logo in front of you. We will be in one of the classrooms on the right. 
    • Look for signs to direct you to the AAC training room.
